I have over 20 years as a specialist cardiologist and a private practice of over 10,000 patients.
Doctor Warwick Bishop discusses two papers related to aging and red wine in this podcast. The first paper, published in 2013, identified molecular indicators important in assessing aging in mammals. Since then, approximately 300,000 articles have been published on the topic. The Mediterranean diet is recommended for slowing down aging, and eating nuts, fibre-rich foods, and a diet low in fatty meats and sugars is associated with less chronic disease. The second paper discusses a study on the effects of red wine on gut microbiota in men with coronary artery disease. The study found that red wine consumption possibly improved antioxidant levels in the blood, but there is no clear evidence that alcohol consumption is beneficial in this space.
