Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. I'd like to talk briefly about risk and benefit when it comes to therapy.
I think when we commence any therapy for someone, we need to understand that every medication has some risk. But we have to then understand what's the benefit going to be to the patient. If the benefit outweighs the risk, then it's a simple equation. If the benefit doesn't seem to outweigh the risk, then what's the point? For example, we know aspirin may carry a small risk of bleeding from the gut. So small risk. If you've got no headache at all, then you won't get much benefit. But if you've got a bit of a headache, then there's a lot of benefit for taking aspirin so you probably take it. Pretty simple, really, isn't it? But every medication should be considered in that way I think.
I've done a podcast on the very topic. Should be a link below if you're interested in more information. Until next time, I wish you the very best. Please think about risk and benefit for all those medications that you take or think about taking. Till next time. Good health. Goodbye. And please don't die from a heart attack.
