Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. I'd just like to take a moment to tell you a little bit about how we slow the heart.

Well, when do we need to slow the heart? Sometimes in atrial fibrillation and sometimes in other rhythms where the heart gallops along with a rhythmic disturbance. Well, one of the common medications we used to slow the heart are things called beta-blockers. You may have heard Metoprolol or Atenolol. These are commonly used. We can use centrally acting calcium blockers as well. These are ones that act mainly on the heart rather than in the periphery. These agents are things like Verapamil and diltiazem. In atrial fibrillation, we can use Digoxin to slow the heart and occasionally even use amiodarone. Well, it's an interesting and complex area but that's a bit of a brief overview.

If you want a bit more information. I've done a podcast on the very topic and the link to that podcast should be just below. In the meantime, I hope your heart doesn't race. I wish you the very best. And please don't die from a heart attack. Goodbye.
