Hi, my name's Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Look, one of the things that we deal, within cardiology all the time is thinning the blood. So I want to talk briefly about it. There are two main systems at play and they interact, but they come down different pathways to form a clot at the end. One pathway is called the coagulation cascade and relates to a whole lot of proteins that are formed principally in the liver. These are actually vitamin K dependent, which is why Warfarin, which is a vitamin K blocker has been used as an anticoagulant for many years. The other arm of that cascade to form clots is driven through platelet activation. Platelets are tiny little things within the bloodstream that can clump together and help form a clot. We use aspirin and aspirin-like agents to turn that system down. It's really fascinating how these interplay. I've done a podcast on the topic below, so, if you're interested, please have a listen.
In the meantime, take your tablets, look after yourself, and please don't die from a heart attack. Goodbye.
