Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today, a quick word on calcium in the heart.

Now, if you've done any reading or listen to anything around calcium in the heart, you would know that as calcium in the arteries increases, risk of heart attack is also correlated. Well, sometimes we see patients who have relatively high calcium in their arteries that seem very fit and well. When we look at their arteries in more detail, there were no adverse features or indicators from looking in more detail, certainly low incidence of fatty or unstable plaque. Well, this high calcium situation can be seen in endurance athletes. We're not exactly sure why. It may be due to the wear and tear. But certainly in these cases, that elevated calcium score is not necessarily the bad sign, and that would be in a group of mere mortals like us who don't do that endurance sort of training. So it is an interesting space.

I've done a podcast on the very topic below. I'm sure you'll find that fascinating. Have a click on it and listen. For now, however, I'm going to wish you the very best. Take care and bye for now.
