Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today, a couple of quick words on blood pressure.

Well, we've all gone to the doctor and had our blood pressure taken. And they mentioned all these numbers, top numbers, bottom numbers, systolic numbers, diastolic numbers. What do they all mean? We always hear 120 over 80. Sounds about normal, but where do we need to focus our blood pressure goals. What's more important? The top number or the bottom number? Well, it turns out that it's probably the top number that's more important than the bottom number. And some researchers started to point it in that direction that we've suspected that for some time.

In general terms, you've got to look after your blood pressure. Really, is the low hanging fruit of things we can do to reduce your risk of a problem in the future. Reducing your heart attack can reduce your risk of stroke, heart attack, atrial fibrillation, cardiac failure, even renal failure. So look, after your blood pressure, get the top number and the bottom number checked.

I've done a podcast with more detail on all of that. So please check out that podcast. The details should be below, overside or within this video. So check that out if you're interested. Til next time. Of course, I wish you good health care  and bye for now.
