Hi, my name is Dr. Warrick Bishop and welcome to this Healthy Heart Minute.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but to a large degree, our cholesterol is set by genetics. If your cholesterol is high, you can blame your parents. But the question is what can we do about it? How do we alter? The body also has a mechanism for keeping things as they are. We call that homeostasis. It's a bit like a thermostat in a living room, keeping the temperature the same. If you eat more cholesterol, your body might produce less cholesterol. And the cholesterol doesn't change too much. If you eat less cholesterol, the body might produce more cholesterol. Again, not a great deal of change.

Well, what can change your cholesterol? What's the impact of exercise. It can make a difference in some aspects of your cholesterol or lipid profile, particularly lowering your triglycerides and particularly raising the so-called good cholesterol. And what about food? Well, we know saturated fats will push up your so-called bad cholesterol.

Well, I get the chance to speak with Dr. Karam Costner, a world expert in that topic with the podcast attached to this one minute video. Please check it out. I'm sure you'll find it interesting. Until the next one minute video. I wish you the very best. Take care and bye for now.
